There is no doubt about it: ponytails have made a comeback for Autumn/Winter 2011. Although quite tricky to pull off, this hairstyle can be flattering and takes little time to create. Unveil your cheekbones and up your glamour factor with what we think is the hottest ponytail yet: the textured low ponytail. This straightforward style is great for a day at work as well as for a night out, so do not hesitate to give it a go!

You will need…
A texturizing spray: we love Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, £38.00
A hair gel: try Frederic Fekkai Advanced Brilliant Glossing Cream, £25.00
A hair tie and bobby pins

Step 1. Prep damp hair with a texturizing spray and blow-dry it. If you have thin hair, make use of a good volumizing spray: we suggest Bumble & Bumble Styling Thickening Spray, £6.95. Do not overthink this step, as you want to obtain a fairly untamed look. Straight hair is ideal for this style, but waves work just as well.

Step 2. Neatly comb your hair back to the nape of your neck and fix in place with a hair tie. You want to obtain a sleek look, so make sure to get rid of bumps and to secure your ponytail tightly. Add shine by applying hair gel evenly to the top of your head: this step is crucial, as it creates the play on texture which makes this hairstyle so interesting.
This style works best without bangs yet, if you do not want to pin yours back, you can also choose to keep them down. Make sure they are tamed and slightly gelled and avoid the greasy, wet look.

Step 3. A texturized ponytail is the essence of this look, so have fun with this step and scruch your hair up as much as necessary. For a full-on effect, brush your ends to create even more volume and texture. Do not go overboard with your styling: after all, you want to keep your ponytail looking chic and glamorous rather than tangled and frizzy.

Step 4. Finally, grab a section of hair and wrap it around your hair tie, securing it in place at the nape of your neck with bobby pins.

Is this ponytail look for you?
